Description: Taurus Elite Ski Trainer

Very well equipped with a small footprint

The indoor ski trainer is easy to mount to a wall. Once installed, it hardly takes up any space in your room – whether at home or in a commercial gym. Alternatively, a floor stand is sold separately so the machine can be positioned anywhere in the room. It even includes small wheels in the back so you can move the ski trainer.

The Taurus Elite Ski Trainer features a hybrid resistance system. Magnets generate a base resistance (10 settings), and as soon as you start pulling, the rotor blades add air resistance. In general, the harder you pull, the more resistance. The faster you pull, the faster the air is displaced. This works quite well up to a certain speed, but at some point ‘the air effectively gets in its own way’, making it more difficult.

Attached to the mast is an easily legible training computer. It shows you all your relevant workout data and lets you input your settings. And on top of the computer is a tray to hold a smartphone or table so you can watch exercise videos or listen to a podcast, for example.

Better results with more variety

The basic principal of how the ski trainer works is, put simply: pull on the handles. But there are many different techniques you can use. You can alternate hands, from left to right, or pull in tandem. The way you do it changes the muscles used and the intensity with which they are activated. Pulling with both hands at the same time generates more resistance and is therefore harder. When alternating hands, you activate more stabiliser muscles in your core.

Your posture and form also play a significant role in determining your results. You typically do the exercise in a slight squat. But it can also be performed while kneeling, sitting or even lying down – face the machine, face away or turn to the side. This all affects your workout. The best thing to do is what you enjoy and can stick to long-term!
